So, the Academy Awards, known by everyone as The Oscars, is an annual American ceremony for the cinematic film achievements, presented by the AMPAS (American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences), the world’s preeminent movie-related organization with more than 6,000 members. By the way, did you know that actress Bette Davis claimed that she named the Oscar after her first husband, band leader Harmon Oscar Nelson? Haha… This is not official; but in 1939 AMPAS officially accepted the name “Oscar” as a label for the Academy Awards.

The Oscar statuette, or the Academy Award of Merit, depicts a knight rendered in Art Deco style holding a crusader’s sword standing on a reel of film. The statuette is made of gold-plated britannium on a black metal base, 13.5 in tall, 8.5 lb.

The first Academy Awards Ceremony took place on May 16, 1929, at a private dinner at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, with only 270 people in the audience, but the first ceremony ever televised was held not earlier than 1953. The first Best Actor awarded ever was Emil Jannings for his performances in The Last Command and The Way of All Flesh.

Did you know that for being nominated, a film must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of 1 January to midnight at the end of 31 December, in Los Angeles County, California?

For those who really love The Oscars and Fashion this is one of the most exciting events, waiting for the glamorous arrival of the stars walking up the Red Carpet. Who’s wearing what on the red carpet may seem trivial, but is gonna bring millions of dollar and prestige to the fashion designers. This is the most elegant day of the year, the most notable event for fashion designers presenting their most extravagant creations. “Advertising dollars are so expensive and marketing budgets are so fractured these days with social media, digital media, print media and television media, so the red carpet is more valuable than ever”, InStyle editor-in-chief Ariel Foxman told Reuters.

I hope this little intro into the most glamorous side of the Hollywood was a pleasant and informative Sunday reading for everyone.
